Stefan Tilburgs
Stefan Tilburgs studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp as a graphic designer and has nurtured a deep passion for photography since childhood. After the sudden passing of his mother and brother, my love for photography was reignited, and since then, you will always find me with a camera in hand. This rekindled passion led me to collect vintage cameras and lenses, and I enjoy experimenting with these old lenses on my Fujifilm XPRO II or occasionally with the vintage analog cameras themselves.
I am the founder of my graphic design agency, Studio Wasabi, and I mentor and teach multimedia students during their internships or bachelor’s projects at Erasmus University College in Brussels. This also fuels my interest in exploring new technologies, such as AI. I find it fascinating to experiment with tools like Midjourney to explore how AI can represent the authenticity of pure photography.
I take great pleasure in capturing moments or experimenting with more abstract subjects, such as themes of water, trees, and nature. I don’t mind a bit of motion blur if it contributes to the right atmosphere. I consciously seek out imperfection and spontaneity. For me, a photograph is truly successful when it captures a moment that can never be replicated—a unique image that no one can recreate exactly. This could be due to the timing, the spontaneity, or simply the sharpness or blur of the image. I experiment as much as possible, so images may arise from a fleeting moment, but they could just as easily stem from architectural elements.
